JOURNEY TO CDOFC

Every story has a beginning. Here's ours.

Our story starts with Bro. David Duran. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army. After serving two tours in Vietnam, he returned home in 1968, at the age of 25. While serving in the Army Rangers and Army Special Forces (Green Berets), he received Five Purple Hearts and numerous other medals and commendations. At the age of 29, he attended a revival in Dallas where he received the Holy Ghost. From that point on, his goal was to share the gospel and what he had experienced with everyone he met. Over the years, he has taught hundreds of Bible studies and touched the lives of countless more. He served as assistant pastor in a church in Harlingen, TX, before founding a church in San Isidro in 1983. In 1989, at 46 years old, God called him to start a church in Arlington, a city where he knew no one. With $300 in his pocket, he packed up his things in a U-Haul and travelled to Arlington. For several months, he lived in his car until he found a group of individuals hungry for the truth of God's word.

As their pastor, this group grew, and they rented a storefront location on New York and Park Row Street. This was the first official location of our church. Bro. David Duran, inspired by the verses that declare that "His House shall be called a house of prayer" (Matthew 21:13, Mark 11:17, Luke 19:46, Isaiah 56:7), named this church "Casa De Oracion," meaning "House of Prayer" in Spanish. Originally founded as a Spanish-only church, our transition into fully bilingual services happened organically in response to the needs of the community we served.

Our church continued to grow and we moved to a second location on Abram Street in 1990. There, Bro. David Duran and his wife, Alicia, continued to serve as our pastor and pastor's wife, leading by their example as fierce prayer warriors, passionate soul winners, and friends to all. Bro. Duran's heart was in training and releasing ministers to start their own churches. As a result, several pastors and churches have come out of his ministry, and he is known as a "pastor's pastor."

In 2010, Bro. David Duran transitioned into a new phase of his ministry and became Bishop of our church, while Daniel Duran, his son, became Pastor. Pastor Daniel Duran initiated the move of our church to its current location on James Street. And in 2022, Pastor Duran & his wife, Jessica, headed up the complete redesign and modernization of our church building. Under their leadership, our church has continued to grow and honor the legacy of Bishop and Sis. Duran.
